Most founders have told their story so many times it's gone smooth. This framework finds the version that hasn't been sanded down.
The story you tell at every pitch meeting and every networking event isn't necessarily your best one — it's just the one you've told the most. This framework is a set of extraction prompts we use in pre-production with every founder story client, designed to get past the rehearsed version to the one that actually explains why the company had to exist.
Start here, before anything about the product or the market:
Not "why did you start this" — that question invites the polished answer. This one forces a specific, real moment: a conversation, a failure, a thing you saw that other people walked past. Answer it honestly and you usually find the founding insight faster than any amount of structured reflection.
Every founder has refined their story into something safe — the version built for a room, not for the truth. Ask yourself:
The story that includes the six months you didn't know if the company would survive is almost always more compelling than the one that skips straight to traction.
Once you have the honest version, structure matters more than polish:
Same framework, formatted to work through on your own before we talk.
